Cottage Foods Laws: A Cottage Food Production Operations are exempt from being licensed and inspected for the production of cottage foods.Click here to learn more about Ohio’s Cottage Food Production laws, including what foods fall under that category and what foods do not. Contact the Vinton County Health Department with questions about foods licenses, permits, and inspections.
Ohio Department of Agriculture rules governing the sell of meat, dairy and other foods not covered by the Cottage Foods Laws can be found by clicking here.
Is it legal to offer items not covered by Ohio Cottage Foods Laws by donation? Yes, that is perfectly legal IF you do not post or verbalize a suggested donation amount and are willing to accept any donation given. Is it legal to sell empty egg cartons or plates and offer food items to go in or on them for free? That also appears to be legal. Again, contact the VC Health Department with your food laws and safety questions.
